Dark cellars, rusted bars, jammed locks, pictures of dieties on walls like tiles, smell of urine in the air, a chill that runs down the spine... stone beds telling stories, millions of pictures running in front of me... as i walked that path that he once walked.. it seemed simple and exciting at the first go to walk through a dilapidating prison, but when you step into that cell for a few seconds... you know how to thank life.... for on one side of the cell are dark walls and on the other, beyond those rusty bars, are green meradows and shining stars... How would he thank life? By understanding the meaning of life beyond those rusting bars or by looking at the meadows and seeing his little ones run back and forth and stretch out his hands to touch theirs?
That smell of urine in the air is not one that irks you but to me it is a reminder that after many years of this air He got to smell beauty, on his way back home, to his children, to his wife, to his men..... to Heaven.
FYI- i went to Chennai central Jail to interview an actor and what followed was what you just read.
